GEODE
4-20-90
Night of cold, a life began
one single heart felt meaning
a precious stone bare in the sand
through nature's patient screening
Inside is more than outside seems
beginning to understand
existence is to love and be
held fast and warm within the hand
discerning, shy, this beauty is
her face hidden from casual glance
on the weathered and worn she bestows her kiss
with cripples she can dance
so long she has forsaken me
my heart had not been right
now she's come to stay and be
within my arms, my arms tonight
a sense, a need for life to be
born of higher reasons
to mesh with all felt and seen
through time and changing seasons

TEN TIMES TEN
10-14-91
Ten times ten and back again
pushed down to the ground
rising up this bitter cup
try to hold it down
Endure the crimes, how many times?
a scream back from a dream
if all for not the sorrow brought
just what does it mean?
blow by blow they let you know
a crack across the back
buckling knees and spinning trees
pulling up the slack
confide by side (all things a side)
alliances will lie
for some to gain reap the pain
when lying down to die
ten times ten all things must end
all is not for naught
inflicted tears atone through years
for suffering that you've brought

TELL ME
11-2-91
Can't fake anymore
She wakes up crying on the floor
Can't take it this way
Struggling to face another day
and existence becomes morning day and night the same
all senses are numb No one around to share the blame
and she says....
Tell Me Where am I going to find it?
Can you see how I've become close minded
Tell Me that there's some sense behind it
Sell Me Vision for the blinded
No two are the same
in their approach to the game
all shades of kind to cruel
everyone making their own rules
While she sits there and stares
at all playing to different ends
she strains to shout its unfair
but its too late to make amends
and she says....
Tell me everybody wins the prize
Sell me this with open eyes
Show me a game everyone wins
No mystery, its Over as soon as it begins
If life is a game
which I think it is
then true some must lose
must I remind you this
and all existence becomes, morning day and night a Game
scattered rules make you numb, no one playing it the same

SHE HANGS
3-7-92
The future was so bright it seemed
That everything it shined
At least in her mind
Everything he said was like a dream
He could do no wrong
At least in her mind
And she hangs on every word he says
and he molds her round shaping her like clay
rubbing features away
And she hangs on, she holds on
and it goes on day after day
till she flies away fly away.... she flies away
so hard to separate love from pain
his words pierce her soul
his need for control
she knows that things are not the same
bruised and battered hopes
but she cant let go
And she hangs, on every word he says
but he pulls her down day after day
he's taking it all away
She hangs on, she holds on
Till it pulls her down, takes her breath away
and she flies away flies away...... she flies away
I don't care what you say
I don't care what you do
I've flown away
I don't love you
Oh No I don't care what you say I don't

TRIPPING (Written for Amy)
3/10/92
Beautiful One
I'm tripping on my tongue
You've got me all mixed up
Are you having fun ?
Those deep green eyes
Have got me all mixed up inside
Know what I want to say
But somehow it doesn't come out that way
You say it all with your eyes, You can say it all with a smile
You don't know how hard I've tried, Just to end up twisted and tied
But you say it all with your eyes, You can say it all with a smile
You don't know how hard I've tried,To come off in style
Such a pretty face
I'm feeling out of place
And you're so fine
A goddess of modern times
Fall down to my knees
And beg you pretty please
Let me speak
Loose this spell on my faculties
All I ask.... consider this.....May be the cure is in your kiss
You could make me whole..... Catch my fall
Rescue my world.......Explain it all
With words spoken from angelic hands
Steal my heart and make it dance
(Chorus)
Did You know
You're a Moving picture show and
I'm sure you've heard it before
That you're everything and more
Before I lose all control
I want to say you're wonderful
And everything to me
With that I'll let it be

MOTORBIKE
2-24-92
Take a ride on my motorbike,
We can go any place you'd like
Hop on back, take a ride with me
Forget your cares and take it down easy Ya! Hey, Hey, Hey
Never Mind what people say
Jump on behind and we're on our way
Free your mind from the cares of the day
Let's just ride and let me hear you say Hey, Hey, Hey
Oooh Let it take you along you know there's always more to see
Ooh let it take you along lets go hop on behind and take a ride with me
Ain't it great to be alive
The wind, The sun by your side
Watch it light Watch it fade
Mother Nature in all her flesh displayed Right Here today!
Time will take you for a ride
So loose the brake and hang on tight
Won't stop or slow, it never stays
Grab at life when it comes your way That's What I Say!
Ooh let it take you along I say Let it take you away
(away with me)
Ooh let it take you along I say
Breathe in the day and we'll ride away

YOU ARE THE DRUG
11-22-91
Just what is it You've done to me
Spinning webs too fine to see
You are the one I'm searching (wrapped up) for
Got everything that I adore
You are a drug to me
You are the one I see
You are a drug to me, ease my pain
You are the one I see it so plain
Just like a moth, drawn to burning light
I'm turning (spinning) circles in the night
My pleasure is, just being with you
don't care where we go, don't care what we do
(Chorus)
it's so plain, it's so plain, so plain.....
You are the drug You are the drug
Ease the pain, 'cause You are the Drug
The thought of you, I can't leave it alone
Can't turn away, can't leave it alone
Look at what you've done You've got me staring at the sun
Look at what you've done Got me staring at the sun
My hands in your fire The flames shooting higher
Take a look at what you've done
You've got me staring at the sun
Just take a look at what you've done
You've got me staring at the sun
I swim for miles to reach your shore
Just to be with you once more
The price paid is high, I couldn't deny
My burning for you I shiver and Die
You are a drug to me
You are the one I see
You are a drug to me ease my pain

COLD HEARTED ONE
10-03-91
Cold hearted one, Take a look at what you've done
Look at what you've done
Everyone's a comedian, Anything in the name of fun
In the name of fun
Take a life, Tear it apart
Take a knife, run it right through the heart
Cold darkening sun Responsibility for what you have done
Fess up to what you've done
Point the finger the other way
Don't care to listen to just what they say, Hey-Hey
What did they say?
(Chorus)
Turn it about when it's all dished out
Shift the blame and Get yourself on out
It's such a shame how you steal the fame
It's not the same, When you, you feel the pain
Proud blinded one, can't see a single thing you've done
Look at what you've done
Mosquito Manic, see what you've become
Draw the blood, Turn your tail and run.
Turn your tail and run
(Chorus) 2X

STUPID GIRLS
6-23-92
Everywhere I turn I see it,
some nameless beauty in my face.
All over the TV screen, on every page of all the magazines
Ask yourself, Why is beauty only skin deep ??
Stupid Girls, Rule the World
So much attention for appearance
no wonder they turn out that way
With your stick on personality, posing, posturing in front of me.
My insult, your disgrace, you're not some puppet on a string
Stupid Girls, Rule the World
We're all such slaves to vision,
so confined by what we see.
I don't want this decision.
Can't you take it away from me?
I'm so full of derision.
Ask yourself how can it be
You wont make the incision,
to take it away
You're a stupid girl, a vapid girl
Ignorance rides on beauty's back,
it takes her anywhere she'd like to be.
Well, I don't care just where she goes
but get her away, away from me.

THRU THE BLUE
8-20-92
Catch a glimpse of life,
staring into the blue,
And wrap your arms around it,
swimming thru the blue.
Put your hands in fire,
with horizons changing hue.
Sustaining, sole provider,
bend your back across the blue.
Stretch my hands across the water,
Into a sea of blue.
Atmosphere earth's daughter,
the sun comes shining through.
An arc of light on dark glass
over a deep pool of blue.
Clouds hang low, weep long, then pass
as light comes shining through
Spending time with you,
under a canopy of blue.
Deep inside I know,
compassion pulls us through.
I know where my life is.
I know where to find it.
There's something behind it.
It's all through the blue.
I know where my heart is.
I know how it started.
There's something behind it.
Running through the blue.
This whole wide world spinning thru the blue.
As I move from place to place, I know it’s really nothing I can do
I know my life runs through the blue,
And I have it ALL by You.

HOW CAN I SMILE
10-29-93
How can I smile when you're not with me,
or find a way to love myself?
Oh existence should be an ever pleasant thing.
How can I love someone else?
We're doing the same stupid things,
when I could be home sleeping.
Ohh! Take Me Home ! (But I keep the words to myself)
Take Me Home! (But I keep the words inside of me)
Ahhh! get me outta here!
When you start with nothing, you tend to get the same.
It's a long-long way to reach ones fame.
It's a big stupid game, and I feel the same.
When someone threw you a compliment, they made a big mistake,
and so did I.
I can't hide.
Love, how much can I ........take?
Take your love and back away from me
Your so far away from me,
but I see Your Face
When You start with something, You tend to get so much more
Something that’s worth fighting for.
It’s a holy war, and I you implore
When you lobbed me a compliment, you did something great
and I threw it away.

HATE YOURSELF
10-29-93
Come on and hate someone, a little while
Come on hate yourself one more time
Do you think of love, when all your world seems cold?
Can you hide behind a smile?
Can you break your own heart, a thousand times?
Well I've cried a thousand times a thousand times.
Put your trust in the One above, and you will find love
On your knees it's amazing what you find there
After all is said and done, do you love yourself?
when the sky hits the sun, do you love yourself?
Lie down and dream of love, a little while.
Come on and dream of love one more time
Can you take your own life, a thousand times?
Well, I died a thousand times a thousand times.
I’ll put your trust in the one you love, into your heart.
And then no one can tear your world apart.
Tell me do you fear someone, when they smile?
Well come on, your only afraid of yourself.
Put it all on a shelf, and love someone
Come on, Come on and love yourself
10-29-93
Come on and hate someone, a little while

IT'S YOUR LIFE
May 8, 1987
You've been looking for something
that's not anywhere to be found.
The answers right in front of you
no need to look around.
and all these things that you call your own,
and all the people you think you've known,
bring happiness for the moment,
but what happens when they are gone?
It's your life
You've got to make it right
decide what really matters,
determine where to set your sights
It's your dream,
I think you know what I mean
Don't let them sell you solace,
by the things which they esteem.
It's your life
Just take a look inside,
and maybe you will find,
you're searching for a sense of pride,
the elusive peace of mind.
When pictured from above
The greatest test of a life worthwhile,
are the people you have loved,
and how many times you've caused a smile.

SHE WOULD
11-20-88
It's such an empty feeling,
seeing what you know you can never have.
Watching as she walks away,
turning my head I have to laugh.
And even though she means the world to me,
I laugh to cover the reality.
Spending my days just laughing at the fool,
laughing at the fool inside of me.
If I built a castle would she come and knock it down?
If I made her happy would she try and kill the clown?
If I gave her all I had, would she trade it for something better?
Yes, she probably would, if I let her.
Constantly the thought of her,
is running through my mind.
It seems those feelings you try so hard to loose
are the ones you'll always find.
But maybe with a little time, I can leave it all behind
and she'll never know, all theses feelings I hold.
These feelings I hold deep inside.
If I built a castle would she come and knock it down?
If I made her happy would she try and kill the clown?
If I gave her all I had would she trade it for something better?
Yes, I know she would if I let her.
I think of her when things are still,
trying so hard to change the way I feel.
It hurts to feel the things you know you can never tell.
And how could I have ever thought,
that things with her could ever go my way?
Not tomorrow. Not today. No not ever.
If I built a castle would she come and knock it down?
If I made her happy would she try and kill the clown?
If I gave her all I had would she trade it for something better?
Yes, I know I should forget her

Not tomorrow. Not today. No not ever.
If I built a castle would she come and knock it down?
If I made her happy would she try and kill the clown?
If I gave her all I had would she trade it for something better?
Yes, I know I should forget her
THE END
First written 6-23-88
Revised 6-11-91
If this is the end, of love that would last forever,
if this is the end, we're throwing it all away.
It's hard to pretend, I don't want to stay together.
It's hard to pretend, I'm happy with things this way.
I gave you my heart, I gave you my soul
and now I feel so out of control.
I'd do anything, that's one thing you know,
to make you happy, anything at all.
I used to depend, on spending our lives together.
I used to depend, on knowing just what you'd say
If this is the end, you know I'll love you forever
If this is the end, don’t want to love anymore.
You tore it apart. It's out of control.
Now I feel like letting go.
The seed that you found, the seed that you've sown
roots setting out, it’s beginning to grow.

THE BALANCE
10-20-86
I think too much, I THINK TOO MUCH!
Too much information running through my mind.
Ceaseless erudition brings the facts I find.
I wonder why, WHY?......?
I'm calling to you, to bring in the balance.
I plead with you, cause this is my last chance.
oh-o-o oh-o-o-o-o-o No No NO NO
my last chance for balance.
I think too much, I THINK TOO MUCH!
Such preoccupation, my secluded kind.
A much needed distraction, to clear my crowded mind.
I wonder why, WHY?......?
As time goes by I'm still wondering why, still feeling just as High.
I flap my arms and start to fly, and soon I can touch the sky.
I’m up there floating all around, with pleading words you pull me down.
I feel the fool, I feel the clown, but I just can’t stay on the ground.

IN YOUR EYES (Katie’s betrayal)
1988
When I asked you how you felt, I wasn't searching for passive feelings,
but that's what I was dealt and I took your reply.
Yes I took your reply when the answer was in your eyes.
That's where your answer lied. The answer was in your eyes.
Oh - I would have let you in, and called a friend,
but now I see you had to pretend.
Yes, I would have let you in, but now I see it has to end.
With your feelings don't try and hide, cause I can see inside.
I don't enjoy the run around, I'm breaking it down.
I'm sorry I missed my dear, when the answer was all too clear.
I've seen through all the lies. The answer was in your eyes
For cowardice and fear, have made words too unclear,
but actions tried and true have tricked and lied to you.
I tried so hard to lend an ear, but with my eyes I didn't hear
what it was you really said, from that beautiful little head
I consider it my fault too, I let everything always point at you.
My masochistic kind. Just tell me what’s on your mind
one outright word can be much more impressive
than a thousand sweet smelling lines
Miss congeniality,
don't pull that crap on me.
A crack in your foundation,
seems it’s time for some renovation

ABOUT YOU
3-10-90
With all the time that we been through,
there's been one thing that has remained true,
your love for me, and my love for you.
When you take my hand, our troubles are small.
When I'm in your arms, I feel we'll last through it all.
Ooh, what we gonna do, do about me, gonna do about you?
Try and understand that it's all slipping out of our hands.
Ooh, what's life gonna be, be without you, gonna be without me?
Baby can't you see, losing you I lose part of me.
I think of all the things we've shared.
How much we've cared.
When I needed someone to talk to, you've been there
With all the separation, the miles in between
Our loves been there through it all,
through all the trouble we've seen.
As time goes by you will see,
that I'll be able to let us be.
And I know that someday you won't be everything to me.
But even then one thing will still be true,
your love for me, and my love for you.

LEAVE IT ALONE
9-07-92
This disease to demolish,
a pox on your soul
to conquer, destroy,
subdue, and control
If you can't see it,
leave it alone.
If you don't believe it,
just leave it alone.
Do your beliefs revolve around tearing all others down?
Gorging at the table of negativity.
You've sickened yourself on derisive remarks.
Choking on what you feel is wrong.
I'm trying to live by what I feel is right.
I didn't ask for your critique of Christ.
I don't care about what you don't believe,
tell me what you do.
What do you believe?
Is it all about giving grief?
Don't attack mine, because you can't find your own
Tell me what you believe, or just leave it alone.

MASTEMA (Love Like Hate)
1-10-93
Your love doesn't leave a trace,
And there's no one to embrace
I've never seen a look like on your face
I've never seen such loving hate
Your Hate, Your love like Hate
Your Hate, Your love like Hate
Love and Hate
Love like Hate
I can close my eyes
but I can't clear my head.
What was once alive,
Killed by the things you've said.
It's dead, choked by….
It's all around
about your place
Don't know what I've found
upon your face
all around
I hear the sound
of hate like leaves
falling down
I knew your face
I know your name
I knew the place
from which you came
I've seen your love
I've felt your pain
but it's to late
I know your hate

IN DREAMS
1-3-91
In dreams I fly, In dreams I dare.
to touch the sky she meets me there
Inside my head, inside my dreams
no one said I lacked the means
To search, To dream, To roam the Earth
To question love or human worth
A face in the glass
A world out the window
The brightest of all
flying over my past
I'm there too, soaring over it all
she meets me there
up high in mid-air
her eyes bright with the sun
and fire in her hair,
With hope in her hands
and love on her lips
A face from my past
unfurls in a scream
and shatters the glass
squelching the dream
awakened to forgotten things I'd been and seen
Each confronts me, demanding to be heard
and understood most of all
Yes, Understood MOST of All
A song from ago
so soft and so slow
drifts down upon me still and silent
the full depth of the words I begin to know
“Inside is more than outside seems
beginning to understand
Existence is to love and be
held fast and warm within the hand”
and Understood most of all.

SKIN (Humanity )
11-26-93
Revised 6- 20-98
Webs of light
shrouded with night
cover the skin of the earth
as brilliant veins
Try to comprehend the magnitude of all humanity
Each looking out through different eyes, seeing what each will see
Countless lives in the living, Each a riddle of complexity
And yet all are mere cells multiplied.
There's a part of me in everybody
A part of everyone in me
Joining minds with the masses of humanity
Experiencing an expansion of form and identity
So many different faces
In so many foreign places
Inconceivable as a whole
my head spinning, I let go
There's a part of everyone I see inside of me
A part of me in everybody
ask yourself how can it be
as you attempt to caress the face of all humanity
Can you imagine the expanses of a world so wide
All who now live, ALL who have died ?
Realize this - We are the skin of the Earth
sloughed off and renewed
Through death and birth
Each one’s home is my home
Each one’s joys are my own
I applaud your struggle and your success
A wonder and marvel is your complexity of thought and finesse
(and how I love your wondrous stories. How I glory in your glories)
I treasure your kind goodness and value your sweet soul
and yearn to see your face lit with a smile that brightly glows
For in treasuring you I treasure me
and your smile is my own, and to me you are known
And all seen within you, may be seen within me
because inside each one brews and swells
all to be seen within humanity, and all there is to tell

Like brilliant veins in the night
Countless observers looking through different eyes
All merely cells multiplied
Imagine the expanses of a world so wide

Realize, we are the skin of the Earth
sloughed off and renewed through death and birth

Joining the masses of humanity

YOUR WAY
Sometimes there's nothing left to say
At times there's nothing you can do
Well I've tried so many times,
to let you in on my frame of mind
But now I realize that I'm just wasting my time
Your way, My way, Down life’s Highway
Your way, My way, Down life’s Highway
Well it's Your way It's my way, down that highway
Your way, My way, Down life’s Highway
You never really know………..
What it all looks like when you're down below
And it's hard to walk that line
between the here and now, what's up ahead, what's left behind.
Don't really know just where we've been and where I'm going to.
<chorus>
Thru time I've seen it all
Moving from a run down to a crawl
As long as we feel differently about what the future is meant to be
We'll just keep moving our own ways, apart

RAIN
1988
Spoken: Standing alone as the Rain wets my brow.....
Another unwanted memory is all you are now.
I don't care to be left out in the rain
but it seems to be happening all over again
I'm the second man out. It's my forte
just keep me in the closet till you want to play
well if your love can't be mine alone
than I'm better off standing out on my own
Ohh, Rain on me, It's coming down pouring down on me
Cold, cold, cold Rain on me, coming down pouring down on me
I came to your heart when it was already full
you promised me room then left me out in the cold
I'd be alright, yes I'd be O.K.
if this didn't have to happen twice in one day
Standing here left with what you've given me
I'm here bereft, ya I'm cold and empty
Rain pouring down, soaked to the bone
You're warm and dry as I'm walking home
Ooh take my life for granted, just throw it away
Maybe someday you will see
Ooh just can't understand it, so just leave it that way
Maybe someday you will see

YOU AND I
I've been thinking about this for a long time
it's hard to keep it all out of my mind
I keep seeing us together, be it all so unexpected
could my illusion shape what could be into reality?
You, You and I
Like day and night, black and white
It's just you, you and I
Who's wrong, who's right, why should we fight
(Blue Moon, Sun bright)
(calm peace, strong might)
I can take all I am and give it to you
cause that's just what I feel you do to me
Like a circle never ending, it just goes round and round
could we break the laws of nature and meet on common ground
Take my hand Take my hand
Around and round we go
Take my hand Take my hand
Don't ever let it go
Never together, yet always connected
It's in you my light's reflected
I've been thinking about this for a long time
it's hard to keep it all out of my mind

REDBONE
If I could tell ya, what I was thinking
You look so lovely, just thought I would tell ya
I wanna kiss you, kiss those lips
I wanna see ya baby, shake those hips, shake it now
Th Th That's right
Need to see you tonight
If you could tell me, Just what I was drinking
Cause you're looking pretty honey, thought I'd say so
and I wanna kiss ya behind a tree
and I wanna kiss ya but you won't let me
You're looking tastety, you've got me drooling
I'm gonna slober, thought I should tell ya
I wanna kiss you, kiss those lips
and I wanna see ya honey, shake those hips, shake it now
If I could tell ya, what I was thinking

EMOTION
You are on my mind again, the skies a shade of gray
Like a candle in the wind, I've been blown away
Emotion in motion (Emotion in motion)
Emotion in motion (Emotion in motion)
Emotion in motion is driving me
I don't sleep much anymore, even though your a dream
trying to reach your distant shore, this mirage is just what it seems
It's getting so hard to understand, why all these feelings
Getting so hard to understand, understand emotions in motion
Everything about you seems to shine, you bring the light to day
and I just wish that you were mine, and your emotion would come my way
You are on my mind again, the skies a shade of gray
Like a candle in the wind, I've been blown away
Emotion in motion (Emotion in motion)

FEEL ME
November 1996
You won't know me, you can’t hear me
You don’t feel me, you’re blindness kills me
If You don't touch me, can you feel me?
Can you love me, if you don't need me at all?
Since when does love feel like suicide
I'm so alone I thought I'd died
You’ve never tried to reach inside of me
I wish I'd known you'd be like that
Your hand so cold across my back
You slip and slide in possibilities
You don't hear me I want you near me
touch me, feel me, Love / Don't / Leave me / Lonely
Sad and lonely
I'M IN HELL NOW DREAMING OF HEAVEN!
You Don't touch me You Don't feel me
Touch Me Feel Me
You don't love me
Love Me Ohhh Love me......
LOVE IS NOT A BROKEN HEART
LOVE IS NOT A BROKEN HEART
Make me beg and make me plead, I'll always be the one in need
I'm cut I bleed. Call it mortality
Now when I'm shown back from that glass, my eyes discern my beauty’s passed
You cut my pride, you bled my dignity

VERTIGO
November 1996
Walking lightly on this jagged edge
Something grabs me and I catch my breath
I feel that way again
I start stumbling
Lose my footing in between the stones
A strange sensation that I'm not alone
Here she comes again
My ill lucid friend
Laughing at the sight of death
Dancing reeling near the edge
In Vertigo.......
Psycho crazy lose my mind
Love me baby feed my life
In Vertigo.......
Your hands Excite me, I wish I'd known
Wish I'd Known....
Your Plans Delight me, In vertigo
Vertigo.........
Your love ignites me on a dizzy ride Vertigo
I lose my senses spin around inside Vertigo
I’m moving through time and space
leave this dimension, I lose my place
it's that way again
I'm traveling
Rising fast I lose my head
Now I'm wishing I was back in bed
Here she comes again
My chaotic friend
November 1996
Walking lightly on this jagged edge
Something grabs me and I catch my breath
I feel that way again
I start stumbling
Lose my footing in between the stones
A strange sensation that I'm not alone
Here she comes again
My ill lucid friend
Laughing at the sight of death
Dancing reeling near the edge
In Vertigo.......
Psycho crazy lose my mind
Love me baby feed my life
In Vertigo.......
Your hands Excite me, I wish I'd known
Wish I'd Known....
Your Plans Delight me, In vertigo

CROSS THE LINE
August 1997
I never want love to end
Love let it be our time
Falling off the deep end
I cross the line
And all my dreams they multiply
We are to divided by
Something all too divine
I cross the line
I never want, never want it to end, not to end, I'll do anything anything I
<repeat>
Me minus you makes me
Empty of all sublime
subtraction such a lonely sign
I cross the line
We are such a symbol I
Won't sacrifice
But He put himself aside
And crossed the line
Something all too divine (Something all, something to divine)
Something all to divide (To divide to divide)
He put himself aside (Put himself, put himself aside)
And crossed that line (Cross the line, cross the line)
(Love displayed me, Love Divine, Love can save me )
Everything flows down in time
Like rivers running through my mind
swim out from your lonely side
and cross that line
Two to the power of
Two will ever be enough
Searching for that lovely stuff
We cross the line

THE FLY (by Lonny, ca 1996)
1996
Limited sight
Blurred vision
Recognize the order
At distances, locked inside door left open, open wide
So many eyes, still I can't see, ten feet in front of me
I.....cicles
Eyes glancing
Freeze my love, ya I'll freeze my love
Ice crystals
Eyes dancing
I'm so in love, so In Love
Lemon light
De....cision
Recollect the odor
In instances, when I'm blind, there is only open skies
So many flies, in front of me, ten feet still I can't see
Limited sight
Blurred vision
Bring to life the order
Coincidence when I find a mind left open. open wide
To my surprise my misery is ten feet in front of me

WILD THINGS (Lonny)
1996
From out of weeks
And into the night
The wild things roared
The wild things cried
From far away
Where someone loved
The rumpus starts
They made him king
And starting in, not blinking once
He tamed them with a magic trick
With terrible teeth
And terrible eyes
Where the wild things are
He sailed off through the night (La la la la la)
Hung with vines
That grew and grew
In Max's room
I'll eat you I'll
Another mischief of one kind
He tamed them with a magic trick
With terrible teeth
And terrible eyes
Where the wild things are
He sailed off through the night (La la la la la)

DOWN TO YOUR SIZE (Lonny & Ron)
??
Lift me up to the skies
Build me Down, Down to your size
Send me out to the night
filled with your smile, and with your sighs
Oh send me away to a place away from you
beheld by your eyes
Raise me up
Raise me up
Down to your size
Lift me up for the prize
Down to the pride, felt by your side
Take my breath away, and the light
into a night filled with your cries
As I leave your face, I can't erase
the pool in your eyes
Send me down
To the ground
that’s big and round
If I wanted to I would be with you (3x)
If I would, I could, would should be with you. I am here now
Lift me up
To the skies, to your delights
Down to your size

BREAK AWAY (Lonny)
1995
I feel good, because I'm right
Because I'm feeling happy tonight
And if I let you know, and if I held your hand
Would it be so cold, like the world we've planned
And would it be right, for me to be, here with you tonight
If I had to walk away, collect my feelings
I would pay, a price for living
My fears of life to excess
If I want to hold you, in my arms
Find me another imagery
For you to see and:
If I had to break away

HOP THE RAILS
You can't catch me cause I'm running down the tracks
You won't see me cause I'm never coming back
I’ve got all my stuff in a sack across my back
You can't catch me cause I'm hoping on a rail oh yea!!
I left my girlfriend lying in the sack
I left my girlfriend lying on her back
I left my girlfriend cause I’d lost the knack
I left my girlfriend and I ain't never comin back Oh Yea!!
Hopin on a train it really takes no brain
It takes a heart, a soul
to relinquish all control
But now I’m free I know, and Getting where I wanna go
Away from my past
on to something that will last
on a train speeding free and fast
along straight and solid tracks
VW BUS
Hop on in to my VW bus come along and take a ride with us
we'll go cruisin round town listening to Jackson Brown
talking intellectual and putting people down
let's go drivin round with hankies on our heads, we'll be getting down to the Grateful Dead
Come on up to the avenues, meet my dog Lou and my girlfriend too
let's go down to the grocery store, I'm all outa granola squares
time to get some more
we'll hang out in the bulk foods honey
It's the best buffet in town for the money
We'll stock up on whole wheat bread and veggies too
walking round with a cart full of greens
wearing beat up sandals and raggy jeans
Were cool because we lack the means
Were cool eating sprouts from beans
Hop on in to my VW bus
hop on in and take a ride with us
Hop on in to my VW bus
hop on in and free your mind with us
SKATEBOARD
Riding on my skateboard, Ride all over town
Riding on my skateboard knocking people down
Riding down the sidewalk the banisters and stairs
Doing funky moves and getting crusty glares
Met an Officer, He tried to give me a ticket
I crumpled it up and said, “Hey buddy stick it.”
this thing don't have no license, ain't no motor vehicle
Not even a voter, just wanna rock and roll!!
Your just a crazy kid, riding all over town
your screwed up in the head from all that falling down
you gotta have a death wish, doing what you do
you're making us all just wish, we could get rid of you
A lump upon my head, a fire in my gut
A gutter for a bed, my wheel has lost it nut
I’m glad I’m here instead, pulling grooves that cut
It’s bleeding bloody red, I feel like such a putz
Soon I will be dead, and flowers will be cut
You can't catch me cause I'm running down the tracks
You won't see me cause I'm never coming back

BOAST
1-21-93
At times like these it's easy to lie
the praise of the world has caught your eye
A partial truth becomes a lie
So hard to see, tough to deny
Not so naive as you’d like to seem
You’re the dreamer caught in the dream
Couldn't bear to live without impressing
Stuffed golden bird with all your dressing
your schemes in the open, you've lost your tact
your busted, broken, you’ve blown the act
your excess and boasting are your undoing
over reaching the mark has brought your ruin
If you'd stopped at unbelievable,
you might have pulled it off
Now face red and swollen,
averting query you fake a cough
Yet onward still it continues
Scanty fame worth more than abounding unfamiliar ridicule

IS IT ENOUGH?
2-23-91
As I try to close the door
I love you even more
A sinking in my heart
So hard to ignore
Now all that I can do
Is sit and think of you
of all the love we've shared
and all that we've been through
You said love was not enough
To hold our lives together
Against forces of division, against hard and stormy weather
Isn’t it enough, if you believe it to be?
Is it enough for you? It is enough for me
If you believe
hang your heart on me
and never leave
whatever comes
we can see it through
because you believe in me
and I believe in you
Just believe in a love that will see us through
That is enough for me, is it enough for you?

THE RIDDLE
4-28-98
I glimpse the riddle of eternity
hidden in a disjointed puzzle sprawled out before me
Encrypted within everything I hear, touch, and see
Echoes of things that were and are to be
Madness overcomes as I grapple to understand
The mighty workings of a sure & silent hand
The zeal of Thy house hath eaten me up
and I long to drink from the bitter cup
Oh please, this is too much for me
This riddle of eternity
Yet still I long to further know. I plead, it comes, I see, You show
And I am given as I need, as I walk, as I plead
A conduit opened from which light and knowledge came
And now that I have felt it I’ll never be quite the same
My mind accelerated, past all I could ever be, as only me
Never again to see things quite the same,
what a Joy! What a rush! I’m free!
ALL things now praise and exalt Thee and Thy name
And the curious thing is that there’s plenty left for me.
For You are most generous as anyone could be
And now I truly begin to understand
Just how much You love and have done for me
With the touch of Your mighty and silent hand

WHEAT (Drug Back Words)
5-10-98
Ours is not to evil, He is the deep, Ours is not to evil, Ours is not to evil
Him Forsake, him forsake, him forsake, him frustration of all wheat.
Yes now Jesus comes for all wheat, Oh for He shall know all wheat.
Oh for Jesus comes for all wheat
Yeah he hides thy ways shall we ever know not where
I do not look back down till You tell me.
Oh we are wasted wheat who’ve searched for all,
your knowledge huge, the grand computer.
Oh a sermon there is tonight,
My heart reaching out to thy light.
Oh all thy stars shine their light tonight.
My heart reaches out like a leaf.
And we all hear one answer, all of one thought.
And we all claimed his name have.
Oh the Master’s hand generates His lightning
Dark hands reach out to block it out
The Master’s hand generates His lightning
Dark hearts reach out to strike the leaf
Our Father in His name, here’s one listening
Our Father in His name, Ooh You are there
Ours is not to evil, he is the deep, Ours is not to evil, Ours is not to evil
Him forsake, him forsake, him forsake, him frustration of all wheat
Yes now Jesus comes for all wheat, Oh for He shall know all wheat
Oh for Jesus calls for all wheat
Oh please awake once more, he awakes my soul’s grief
till the inside shame rises out,
and God made the wonder, sinner’s path clear
In our dark call God helps us
Him frustration of all evil
Yes now Jesus comes to all wheat
Oh for He shall know all wheat
Oh for Jesus calls all wheat
Oh through my heart, my head nears through it I can call
Take the men now what are wheat
Peace sing out, Lucifer went in too deep
His like weep... is it our time?

HELLO WORLD ( The Fly - Back Words)
5-10-98
For unto us a child is born For unto us sovereign
And a child shall lead them all Stroking the fierce one's mane
Hello world. You are beautiful. I love you.
Please wait a little longer and I will come to rescue you
Yet in mine own hour due, Yes in mine hour come down from heaven
He who rules will bow down his house
All of Islam, and all Jerusalem
The Anointed, The Harlot’s Hero
I will rescue you, not one but ALL
(Chorus):
Oh Hello World Oh Hello People Oh Hello You
Oh how you work from the work I do
Away from me, around you go
But you’ll come back to me I know
I give my love to you each day
provide for you in every way
yet not much I hear you say
as you roll along on your way
Hey Hello World
Hey Hello People
Oh Hello You
Oh How I pour my smiles on you, as around and round you go
All those smiles will come back to me someday, I know
Do you see me down there below?
Can you feel me? Do you Know?
Here I am, get down, look up, I’ll show
All I have On YOU I bestow
Oh how I wish I could help you know
and realize all the beauty you have there below
It’s not so much up here with me
ALL I have, I have given to thee
Wipe your eyes, Take a look and see
All these things will teach you of me
Feel my love and learn of me
I am embodied by a tree
a bird, a brook, all things you see
All these things they speak of me
(Watch and Ask the children - they, most of all, speak of me)
Oh Hello World Oh Hello People Oh Hello You
Oh how you work, from the work I do
Away from me, around you go
But you’ll come back to me I know

A POEM FOR BRENDA
6-21-98
Brenda, oh Brenda, I hope you can see
That you are a treasure that’s so dear to me.
Sitting on your bed when I was three
You spoke so kindly and gently to me,
As loving and fun as a sister could be.
Brenda, oh Brenda a treasure to me.
Your little brother, right after the other,
We watched your new kittens and tended their mother.
We ate creepy crawlers one after another
And you’d chase me down gladly with kisses to smother.
Such a kind older sister, such a pesky young brother.
Brenda a treasure you are, unlike any other.
Now we’re both grown, with lives of our own,
I see you so seldom; we speak on the phone.
I love you, dear Brenda, please don’t feel alone,
I wish I could patch up your heart and your home.
My ears, my shoulders and my heart gladly I’ll loan,
And all of my love I will place in a poem.
You are so sad, so distraught and so blue
Over hardship and heartbreak that life’s brought to you.
And it makes me cry just to think it all through,
So I kneel to say a prayer or two
In hopes that God will take care of you.
And I wish most of all that at this time that you knew
The beautiful, wonderful person that’s you.
Now it’s my turn to give, all that you gave to me,
So come sit on my my bed, I’ll speak kindly to thee;
Now I’m the big brother, now you’re only three.
I’ll hold you and stroke your hair lovingly
And whisper: Brenda, oh Brenda, I hope that you see
The beautiful treasure that you are to me.
We jump off the bed and run off to play
Outside awaits a beautiful, bright sunny day.
Soon you feel better, past cares vanished away;
Your sweet happy face, a lovely smile to display
And you, most of all, deserve to be this way.
Please Brenda, a sweet smiling treasure ever you’ll stay.

Now it’s my turn to give, all that you gave to me,
So come sit on my my bed, I’ll speak kindly to thee;
Soon you feel better, past cares vanished away;
Your sweet happy face, a lovely smile to display
And you, most of all, deserve to be this way.
Please Brenda, a sweet smiling treasure ever you’ll stay.
AS A CHILD
6-21-98
As a child I learned to play
with an eager heart I would greet each day
I found wonder and merriment on my way
How sad was I when it went away
As a child I loved the day
When night time came, to my dismay
I’d cry and fuss and yearn to play
as I was hustled on my way
into the dark, in bed to lay
Oh how fearsome to me was the loss of day
But mother gently hovering overhead
Would kindly, sweetly, tuck me in bed
Whispering assurance in my ears
“It will come back, you’ve so many years”
And thus she’d silence all my fears
And I would sleep, cheeks stained with tears
Now as I’m grown, I too love the night
It’s not so clear and not so bright
But way up above it’s still full of light
and I see how silly was all my fright
For there is great beauty in the night
Yet as I grew I too forgot
the simple things that life had taught
In my folly I discounted the small
Oh the nerve, the ignorance, the gall
It’s really so simple after all
Like the joy of a smiling child, hugging a big round ball
I’m so sorry if I was rude or unkind
Please forgive me, for I had gone blind
For in your sweet small simplicity
You were and are, a far greater one than me
You’ve taught me much and this I proudly say
As a child I am today

THE KINGDOM OF A FLY
6-23-98
All this outward searching, when inside us it's lurking
like the tiny little fly, who withers up to die
on the window sill to lie, a crusty little guy
while wondrous world and wide waits for us outside-in.
Hey there little guy, you’re free, you can fly!
Why there sitting do you lie, on the sill resolved to die?
Can’t you see with all those eyes?
You can fly, you can fly!
Quit banging your little head, upon that hard clear glass.
Don’t you understand? You’ll never make it past.
It’s out the door instead, here I hold it open - fast!
Your solution lies within you, and what you have mistook
he answer is behind you, inside you. Won't you turn and look?
And we, like that little fly, so fixed upon the sky
with all our dreams to fly, soon wither up and die.
We fuss and sigh, and cuss and cry.
Some give up, and stop to try.
While all this time, patiently outside,
a grand world there awaits, untested and untried.
We seldom ever reach the blue, with such strong eyes few hear;
and hearing don’t believe it’s true, it really sounds quite queer
“The kingdom is within you.” “That’s nice, go play my dear.
Can’t you see I’m busy too, no time for games I fear.
Oh, such childish hooey-hoo, I see it crystal clear.”
While all the time, and all the while, among our constant buzzing,
the kingdom waits inside, not out. We find that oh so puzzling.
Faint laughter drifts upon us, as we bustle in our spree,
and we see outside our window, that child swinging from a tree.
A face full of delight, full of wonderment and glee.
How I wish I had the time. How I wish that that were me.
It’s where you’ve been before.
It’s what you’ve left behind.
It’s back where you came in.
And this is what I find
so amusing to the mind
That it’s not really up ahead, but waiting back behind
Without so many quick sharp eyes, yet we too are so blind.

WILLINGLY - (I WAS A BIRD)
6-24-98
I was a bright intelligent bird.
On wings I’d fly and play with words
With tail of red, and back of gray
I’d whistle songs throughout the day.
Gray is for balance, for I can see, both sides with acuity
Red is the intelligence of my mind, put in it’s proper place - behind
And the white round my sharp eyes, says pure judgement in me lies
Kept by the most loving hand.
I learned to follow His command.
At first I didn’t understand…
But through patient kindness I began,
to become SO MUCH MORE, by His gentle hand.
Of all creation, birds are most free.
They, least of all, will follow thee.
if not respecting of their agency
in all your actions you can be.
My playmate with the yellow head,
back of green, wings tipped in red,
will tell you clear and sharp with pain,
from biting words which do explain:
“I will not mind, you will not train
if you’re not kind, and don’t refrain
from stepping on my right to be,
to act from the light, inside of me.”
Birds are most spiritual and free
They sense all you do and all you be.
Within their judgment they’re not far
from sensing things just as they are
From this they master mimicry,
Sensing sight and sounds so deeply.
Not crystal clear, but close enough.
Bent to refine these sounds so rough.
With such intense curiosity,
they hold, and play with sounds from me.
Birds of hand have learned of man.
They, most of all birds, understand.
And when treated with their dignity,
return depths of respect and admiration - Willingly.

I WAS A BIRD - PART II
6-24-98
He clipped my wings
I knew then not why, and so I’d struggle, screech, and cry
so cruel I thought, to steal my gift
that gave me strength, that gave me lift
But now I know and understand
it was simply so that He could command, and
I would not try, myself to fly, in freedom or fear away
But watch and listen, in my weakness, perhaps to hear each day
the great and wondrous things, He had to teach and say
The words He spoke, they spoke to me
And I would struggle endlessly
To speak them with such clarity
And catch their mighty majesty
As I learned my world it grew, to me so large and fun
that I forgot that I once flew, mid sky and glorious sun
And He became a Joy to me
Each day I’d call, till Him I’d see
And He would come so lovingly
to feed and care and play with me
And now today, as always, my words are none but His
Such a depth of gratitude and awe, my life truly is.
His judgement - caring tact, I could not understand.
In these thought hurtful acts, I did not comprehend,
While seeing I was blind. I’d feared the gentle hand.
He was so giving and so kind, and most of all my friend.
All this I now know as fact, on Him I now depend.

Green Frogs, Brown Cows, Black flies ("All flesh is grass" - ISAIAH 40:6-8)
6-25-98
Green frogs croak the warning this dewy summer’s morning,
hidden amidst green grass lie green lumps brown cows pass.
On which hoards of black flies bask.
So much I wish I’d seen,
while walking through the green
Especially the last.
In the heart of each one’s soul,
lies something latent, beautiful
And the key to the unlocking
is known through constant knocking.
and soon it will be full shown, and shocking,
all you were of old, in times so long ago.
For all of life, springs from life
just like a million flies
feed one sparrow through her life
before she falls and dies.
Like a billion blades of grass grown on sunshine’s tears of laughter
through the gentle cow do pass, become something better after.
(I speak more of the dairy foods and not so much of manure
but when all counted at the end there’s more latter, dairy fewer)
Such enormous quantity, and economy in the small.
Such great things come thereafter.
And aren’t we though abundant be, tiny ones after all,
beneath God the universal crafter?
So when you see any form of life, especially that green
respect it with wide wondering awe, there’s so much to be seen and saw.
For what's a frog, a toad? - A prince in the making?
We've all been down that road - This make no mistaking
for ALL is adored, precious, useful, and beautiful to God.
So If poured in us the glue of soul, then too the mutable frog.

ALL THE APES I’VE KNOWN
6-24-98
All those who say that man did not evolve from apes,
Are just the ones who did.
And Oh how I loved the apes and monkeys
When I was a kid.
The kind gentle girl-ill-la-la-la
So loving, gentle, and wise
Protecting those so dear to them
with pounding chest and fierce eyes
The clever funny little chimp,
such a loving curious guy,
mischievous and intelligent to a flaw
never stopping from asking, what if? or why?
The judicious bright Orangutan,
People of the forest.
firmly laying down the law,
no singing in this chorus.
He thinks he’s the king jungle man,
His crown caught crosswise in his craw
They too have love within their heart,
Your own conclusions draw.
When I was young I intensely longed,
to have such a little pal.
Now that I have grown up strong,
I’ve figured it all out somehow.
And through tears I know and smile.
They’ve been there all my life,
and with me all the while.
And all of you are known of me, I’ve named them in my head
I do not search so many more, but await to know instead.
YOU now so much more, I love, admire, and adore
Now that I’ve been shown. (All you monkeys, now that’s another poem)
And oh what joy and pleasure, knowing them all, has been I see.
Beyond anything I can measure, Thank you all for gracing me
With your brilliance, and your love, and your curiosity.
Thanks be to You, most of all my GOD
For now to me it seems
So long, I didn’t realize, this thing so odd
How magnificently You’ve answered “My Monkey Prayers and Dreams”

THE DEEP BLUE
6-24-98
Through the blue, into the deep
All things crawl, and swim, and creep
To some shocking, strange and creepy
But to me peaceful, still, and sleepy
When I was a child, I loved to take long baths
my head ‘neath the water wild to see how long I’d last.
I longed to be a fish, and fly like a bird in water
This once my liquid wish, to be sea’s graceful daughter
And I would have such wondrous dreams of swimming in the sea.
I could swim forever it seems while gracefully I’d breathe.
Look out into the ocean, all fish there you will find.
And even there some mammals, all things of every kind
The behemoth graceful whale, wise, gentle and so kind
While swimming through the deep, has so much on his mind
The curious playful dolphin, so quick and so clever
It loves to tease, it’s all fun. Ocean child is it ever
All kinds of plants and growing things
Like the trees, coral too has rings
The starfish dot the sea bed.
It's there they sparkle and shine instead.
The spiky bold anemone crunching on the coral,
while shy hidden octopus, eel, and shrimp are resting on their laurels
So many plants and things there grow
which really are quite floral
Colors so wondrous on display,
Here God’s the biggest spender.
Shapes in such a vast array.
I love the ocean’s splendor.

THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS
6-29-98
White it seems like purity.
It speaks of peace and good
The Father of all the colors.
It’s meaning best understood.
From a perfect mix of three
results the clean and pure
White speaks most of Thee.
light forever will endure.
Black is void and nothing.
A cipher dark and cold.
And I’ve come to fear it less as I have grown old
Mistakes, Misunderstanding, and Ignorance is black.
Absorbing all it’s given returning nothing back.
Yellow is the gift of agency.
Given to all things which live and be.
And in this great gift, all things are free
to make, and choose, what they’ll do, and be.
And just like from the start, head follows the heart
Yellow is the beat, the timing, and rhythm.
Subsonic rules, felt more than heard,
Sans understanding, we just live em.
Yellow is reliable exactness.
It is struggle and hard work
With Red makes Faith to get through this mess
It won’t back down or shirk
It moves along each day, just like the yellow Sun
And finds along its way, the time to have some fun.
Intellect it is Red.
It’s all the info kept in your head.
It embodies you, your individuality.
Such a visual statement, such a simple plea - “Everyone must see, all that’s great in me.”
Red it is the warm one.
The one most radiated by the Sun.
Red is slow and steady.
At all times it is ready to offer a correct reply
When it’s questioned with the “why?”
Green are the emotions, as all tall grass and trees.
Deeper than the oceans, and broader than the seas.
It embodies such nurturing love.
Such feats of devotion.
Like the gift brought Noah by the white dove
floating desperate on the ocean.
Given to all things freely when felt in purity
Even to things so tiny as the simple flea dancing on the graceful lilies.
Blue is greatest of them all, because last and least it is simply most misunderstood
It is the quiet innocence of the small. All creative, artful, spiritual, and good
Azure blue, the color of the sky, given to all things which flutter and fly
Dark blue, the color of the oceans, when mixed with the emotions.
Orange is the law, judicious with firm decree
which governs consequence and fate, to all things which live and be
Orange creates order. A mix of yellow with red.
For things they will not follow, without accepting heart and head
Purple is the glory
The ending to this merciful story.
It’s what we chase so blind, this race of all mankind
For so focused on the ending, we soon forget the story.
The joys and sadness of each day, and all colors of gladness along the way
Yet of all the colors on display, It’s the child most forgotten we need today.
The most beautiful color given to all mankind, is the one given first, and the last you’ll find.
As on earth, as too with you, it is blue, I boldly say, It’s blue!
You may learn it full and true, just ask and pray, He will tell you.

I AM ADAM
6-26-98
I am Adam, the father of all creation,
and in my simple way but one, have fathered many nations
I am Adam, I am a god, the beginning and the end
Yet I too human, weak and small, and most of all your friend.
I am your father, I am a child.
I am gentle meek and mild.
I administer His spirit
your companion after all.
So glad when you can hear it
I connect you when you call.
On Earth all things were given me to name
Oh, what a chore to me.
For in all my speaking I was lame
Not so skilled as my quiet wife you see.
And so two together we,
named them all with words
Such a helpmeet she was to me.
naming Cats and Apes, and Monkeys and Birds
All grasses, flowers, and trees
The simple Gnat, persistent Fly, and grand Bumble Bee
And hardest of all for me, were the fishes in the sea
For where they were I could not be.
Now You my God must too help me.
Please I ask of thee
I submit and I plea
On my bended knee
as I bend too my will to thee
Please oh please help me
That night as I slept
I dreamt of swimming in the sea
And all things that swam and crept
Were there in front of me
And as each one I saw, their name it came to me
Oh my God for this, I sing my praise to thee
And Eve and I, just as with our great fall
We walked together through it all
We tried each other lovingly
and grew in all as given from thee
In time a simple Family, all human life, reluctantly I started,
upon the long and gentle plea, of my wife, so kind and wise hearted,
Thank you my sweet wife,
for showing me how to give my life.
For I thought as a man,
and did not the little dots understand.
The greatness of a child,
to me so undisciplined and wild
Worse than the mischievous monkey
He was such a pest to me
Standing in a tree
upon me he would pee
And I became so angry
That in anger I threw rocks at thee
Oh how sorry now I must be
For your greatness I did not see
That too, I was a child, so untamed and so wild
yet so innocent and free
and of all things one most lovely
NOW I truly see your sweet simplicity
You child, in this, are a greater one than me.
Curious, and intrigued
mischievous and playful
content to while away, an entire day full
amid the dirt and bugs, picking all my colored flowers
While away I would buzz, putting in the hours
To feed this growing family, which at times I felt most ungrateful
But it all came back now I see
All I gave has returned to me
And as a man I could not understand
The great sweeping scope of God’s wondrous plan
Such a great depth of gratitude is mine
All that is beautiful in all of mankind
And lest like I am prone to do
I should not forget the woman too
For she child is greater than us both
If not for her, all would be lost
She made the choice and paid the cost
She was first, created last
and in this life was she surpassed
While being last, she was so great
Greater than I, or all a man could make.
Woman, child, throughout all time
My kind has done you wrong
And in my proud self important mind
I was weak, and not so strong
for in my self filled clamoring, I could not hear the song you sing
forgive me for I was so wrong. I should have been listening.
I missed your gentle song. And how I’d strain to be near it.
But now to me please sing, I so long and yearn to hear it.
Now it is the music that I long most to know
Your glorious precious song
sung from lips tender and so full
Of all heard in my long life, a sound most beautiful.
And now in the mirror, I can see
What is so precious and overlooked
All that was good in me
Now my mind is clear, as too is my ear
Now I truly see and hear
through time and eternity
All intelligence, all creation, and all things I’ve caused to be
Are each, in pure and special ways, so much more beautiful than me.
Now I will shut up.
Can a god shut his mouth?
Yes, like the geese I’m done,
and I am flying south
Bye-Bye my friends, good bye
How I will miss you so
But I’m going to a place
I find so wonderful
Where to me it is so warm
Such tropic beauty, and such charm
Oh how I’ve learned to hate the cold
especially now when growing old
Be sure to call me and to write
In my life long trip I’ve had such fright
That you will judge me harshly
For everything I’ve put on thee
Please don’t forget to speak to me
I LOVE YOU TRULY, PLEASE LOVE ME
As I travel through the night
Upon my swift and hasty flight
Constantly, It’s you, my family kept in sight
Please don’t forget to call and write
Now I must sleep, so now good night
Ohh yeah, Please will you turn out that light
And kiss and hug and hold me tight
Sing sweet songs to me each night
Speak gently to me in my fright
Burp me sitting me up right.
As I grow and I get older,
Will you place me on your shoulder?
(and let all those darn smothering blankets grow gradually colder)
And above all to me - be nice - Don’t fight
Now I can sleep, so nitey nite
P.S. You forgot to turn out that light
P.S.S. That darn night light too!
with the crystal cat with lamp of blue
Somehow you know it protects you!
Dumb struck fascination for all that’s blue
…..Don’t you remember that I’m a child too?
I do

6-26-98
I am Adam, the father of all creation,
and in my simple way but one, have fathered many nations
I am Adam, I am a god, the beginning and the end
Yet I too human, weak and small, and most of all your friend.
I am your father, I am a child.
I am gentle meek and mild.
I administer His spirit
your companion after all.
So glad when you can hear it
I connect you when you call.
On Earth all things were given me to name
Oh, what a chore to me.
For in all my speaking I was lame
Not so skilled as my quiet wife you see.
And so two together we,
named them all with words
Such a helpmeet she was to me.
naming Cats and Apes, and Monkeys and Birds
All grasses, flowers, and trees
The simple Gnat, persistent Fly, and grand Bumble Bee
And hardest of all for me, were the fishes in the sea
For where they were I could not be.
Now You my God must too help me.
Please I ask of thee
I submit and I plea
On my bended knee
as I bend too my will to thee
Please oh please help me
That night as I slept
I dreamt of swimming in the sea
And all things that swam and crept
Were there in front of me
And as each one I saw, their name it came to me
Oh my God for this, I sing my praise to thee
And Eve and I, just as with our great fall
We walked together through it all
We tried each other lovingly
and grew in all as given from thee
In time a simple Family, all human life, reluctantly I started,
upon the long and gentle plea, of my wife, so kind and wise hearted,
Thank you my sweet wife,
for showing me how to give my life.
For I thought as a man,
and did not the little dots understand.
The greatness of a child,
to me so undisciplined and wild
Worse than the mischievous monkey
He was such a pest to me
Standing in a tree
upon me he would pee
And I became so angry
That in anger I threw rocks at thee
Oh how sorry now I must be
For your greatness I did not see
That too, I was a child, so untamed and so wild
yet so innocent and free
and of all things one most lovely
NOW I truly see your sweet simplicity
You child, in this, are a greater one than me.
Curious, and intrigued
mischievous and playful
content to while away, an entire day full
amid the dirt and bugs, picking all my colored flowers
While away I would buzz, putting in the hours
To feed this growing family, which at times I felt most ungrateful
But it all came back now I see
All I gave has returned to me
And as a man I could not understand
The great sweeping scope of God’s wondrous plan

BROKEN
6-27-98
I skid as I hit the breaks
I’m so sick of making all these mistakes
God I realize I’m a fool
I cannot do it on my own
Please let me be your great tool
Please I knock, is someone home?
Let me be a help to thee
Shine, polish and sharpen me
Make me a tool in Your great hands
to help and love my fellow man
A tool so glorious and refined
A work so intricate and divine
And such the grand irony
Is that I’m best used in simplicity
And these words to me softly spoken
“I cannot use you till you’re broken”
If like the wild horse you be
You’re really not much use to me
Bridled and saddled,
or harnessed to a plow
I can use you best
when this you will allow
Just submit each day to me,
I’ll do the rest and you shall see
That like the earth in majesty
you orbit the great sun, yet free.

THE KING OF REDUNDANCY
7-6-98
I’m the king of redundancy
I’ll say it not twice times, but thrice times or three
In my zealous zeal to fully explain
I say things over, and over again
Like verdant green trees
Or infant babies
Or soup de jour of the day
Don’t fault or blame me
These words are and be
They beg to be said, so I say
I won’t stop a story until it’s full told
Far past the point of aged and old
Bony and feeble, one foot in the grave
I struggle and work its weak life to save.
To relay each nuance, and detail, and point
I re-flex and bend each worn bone at the joint
But, once dead and buried I soon resurrect
these skeletal bones, and stand them erect
re-fleshing with regurgitated tissue and meat.
I tell you while chewing and again as we eat
digesting leftovers from the meal that last when
these bones were picked clean, now backwards again
It’s body reassembled in gruesome overtones
I’ve made me a monster of used flesh and bones
I’m the king of redundancy
But I’ve said this thing once already you see
I’ve said it before, but you’ll hear it once more
and although you’ve heard it, don’t think me a bore
the joy’s in the telling, to you I implore
let me weave it twice over and new thrice again
my story non-stopping, a thread without end.
Autumn’s leaf that’s non-dropping, returned letters re-send
I spoke it once then, now repeat it for fun
I think that I’m finished, it’s over, I’m done
My endless supply is now fully depleted
I’ve concluded, it’s ended, it’s wound up, completed
It’s stitched up, and sewn up, and folded, and closed,
I hope you’ve not slept, nodded, drifted or dozed.
While all these fine details I’ve fully disclosed
Now I will leave you to comfort, calm peaceful repose
As I leave with my monster all dressed in used clothes
As redundancies king I’m almost concluded
once assured there’s not nothing, I haven’t excluded
I’ve told you thorough, exact, and true
When finally at last I say - I’m through.

GRASSHOPPER
6-12-98
Great gobs of green grasshoppers gnawing green grasses
explode in a frenzy as through them she passes
Heads twisting to see. Legs cocked at the ready
She’s coming toward me. I try to be steady.
A lid poked with holes caps a jar of mason
Small claws press the sides of this new odd glass prison
Inside they cheer from this portal so queer
“Jump my friend jump, get outa here!
This monster among us, a great one to fear”
Their cries are too late as I meet my fate
Will I be squashed or served on a plate?
Spitting green juice, I writhe to get loose
Kicking and squirming in her soft fleshy noose
Off comes the cap, and downward I go
Disturbing the nap, of one old and slow
He wakes, rubs his eyes, and says soft and low
“Whoa there young grasshopper, Hi there, Hello”
In fear and in panic my eyes wide and buggy
He looks at me wisely and speaks somewhat smugly
“There’s no need to fear, I’ve been here before
We’ll soon be let out, when this young one gets bored.
So take a calm seat and enjoy this nice view
Don’t butt your head like those other ones do
for soon they’ll be dead from banging their head
when such joy and comfort awaits here instead”
So I sit and I listen as he calms my fears
and tells me the wondrous tales of his years
And oh what I’ve missed, but how would I know?
of such things spoken softly, from one old and slow
Left in the sun, as off-ward she runs
It heats like an oven baking warm buns
This heat is too much for one old and slow
His eyes how they dim, his voice now so low
I try to shade him with blades of warm grass
But it will not be, and sadly I see
that the life of this great one, so wise has now passed
He filled up my heart, with joy and such gladness
That soon I did start, to deploy others their sadness
Replacing their fear, and their pain in this madness
Assuring them soon we’d be out of this bad mess
I spoke them the words which he'd spoken to me
and soon they did quiet, and sit peacefully.
We all sat in shade under leaves propped as trees
and spoke of icicles, cold mornings, fall breeze.
These things had I hated of lower degrees
Now we would all die for something to freeze
Our heads and our bodies, our fingers and knees
This fire refining our depths of degrees.
Soon she returns. My body now burns
as the lid to this prison is twisted and turned
Sure enough we’re poured out, just as he’d said
I fall to the ground and bounce on my head
And springing to action I jump on my way
I never, no never, will forget this fine day
Thank you old one, for easing my way
And helping me listen to all that you’d say.
Such a wonderful, beautiful, glorious day.
Never again to take lightly life mid grass and hay.

BEAUTIFUL COMPUTER

“Man is still the greatest computer of all” - John F. Kennedy
Beautiful computer
a heavenly commuter
intelligent and wise
scan me with your new eyes.
Beautiful computer
your smooth shell soft and new
circuits tiny internal
Your speaker how it coos.
Beautiful Computer
input devices and keys
I manipulate your digits
are you manipulating me?
Beautiful computer
taking all this in
Your screen now how it brightens
and I too spark a grin.
Beguiled, I’m drawn in
interacting for hours on end
In all this realized anew
I’m downloading data to you
By all I say, show, and do
It’s time to shut you down
far past the time for sleep
As I flip off the switch
You blink and let out one last beep
Beautiful computer
How I never knew
All the richness found in life
to be had by having you.

FEAR OF FALLING
7-14-98
Spinning dizzy in a scream
falling down, down, down
I’m so glad it was a dream
when I finally hit the ground
Awoken sharply in a sweat
my bed the gentle safety net
Soon in time I can forget
the ghastly horror almost met.
Why then do these dreams I ask
plague my unconscious mind?
Inspecting them, it seems a task
the answer I can find.
Could the falling represent
something else, some ill content?
Insecurity, unsurety, inability, obscurity
These but few facets from fear’s family
it is my fear of falling most
which stops me flying free and clear,
what keeps the treasure lost,
in most cases is but fear
Like a haunting taunting ghost
glides freely through the air
I should embrace my scary host
and share his lack of care
I must venture out and dare
to fight the wind and try the air
to go outside my comfort zone
and experience some things all alone
Last night again I had a dream
the same one with the scary scream
but as I thought while falling
My new insight it was calling
So I laid myself out broad,
straight and true, against the wild wind’s charms
and I began to do, (oh help me God)
what I thought best -
I flapped my arms, He did the rest
And as I did I found the lift.
Oh flight, the greatest of all gifts
and so I did defy the harms
of fear, and falling, and pain, and death
and as I flew I found new breath.
The wind it whispered in my ears
its breath so sweet it killed my fears
“Dare to do it as you know
Dare to do as you’ve been told
And as you do you’ll live long and old
Dare yourself to bare and show
and back to you it will be shown
That you’re never really all alone”
Venture, stretch, explore, and dare
you can command wind, earth, and air.
But in so doing take great care
for the chance of falling is still there
But now you know you can over come it
Your desired wish it cannot numb it
If you do as you know, and extrapolate,
you’ll stretch and grow, and too create.
Wings of freedom, wings of flight
gently sweep away all fright
Thank you God for these great things
And most of all for my Great Wings!

IN THE MIDDLE
7-14-98
Getting bigger than my britches
I bust the seams, and tear the stitches
I once was scrawny, now growing fat
I once was brawny, imagine that!
We like to take things to extremes
We intense humans with ideas and dreams
but hear my growing pudgy riddle
“Life is best lived in the middle”
The brilliant sun with all it’s done
is average and quite normal
It’s neither big, or small you see
Of all stars in our galaxy
Main sequence commonality
And in its span 10 billion years
Right at the half point life appears
On earth the middle of the spheres
Just like your nose between your ears
The tiny dwarfs they are too cold
for anything to live by them
The fireball giants they scorch too hot
Their planets they just fry them
But by our star life swells and flows
and with your nose you smell a rose
hands with fingers, feet with toes
because life in the middle grows
In a week are seven days
There’s one for ponder, one for play
five are left between the two
These are the days when work we do
These work days they sustain our life
they’re full of worry, toil and strife
But without them we too would cease
Our lives would stagnate, no increase
Just like my belly begins to blossom
over the rim of my pants
My mid-age middle growing awesome
in a gruesome belly dance
A woman plump with a life so small
Much like the earth a big round ball
It all speaks to me and simply shows
that life best in the middle grows
7-14-98
Getting bigger than my britches
I bust the seams, and tear the stitches
I once was scrawny, now growing fat
I once was brawny, imagine that!
We like to take things to extremes
We intense humans with ideas and dreams
but hear my growing pudgy riddle

I’M OK, YOU’RE OK
7-19-98
I’m Okay, You’re Okay, that’s just a bunch of crap!
Too easy for you to say, you didn’t take the rap!
You come to me and act this way, and expect me to forgive.
Right now I say, “Just go away! I’ve my own life to live!”
I’ve suffered much because of you
Of things you’d say, and things you’d do
And at all times, amid the crimes
in my mind I struggled to
keep it all together,
and above all remain true.
How I talk incessantly, to tell you all I’ve done,
and show all beautiful in me. My acts shine like the sun
I am a rich grand tapestry
Please won’t you listen?
Do You Hear Me?
I in my simple way, am just trying to draw you near me.
On my knees. Are you there?
Hear my soft pleas. Don’t you care?
Then a gentle voice speaks to me,
wrapped in His arms so lovingly
“This is just how things must be.
Everyone suffers needlessly.
I too have suffered much you see,
more than you, you too hurt me.
But in greatness I’ve forgiven thee
And by this rose in majesty.”
You forgive first, then soon you will see,
You no longer thirst, I too have forgiven thee
I’ll give you of my Joy, as you work in my employ.
Like the Earth washed in gentle rain
You will forget all your pain
Forgive them all the pain,
And rise too in your own way
that you too may live and reign
Out of obscurity, as bright day.

STYLE WITH SUBSTANCE
7-16-98
Life is Poetry and Art
The mind, the body, and the heart
Creativity life doth impart to every form, of every kind
that springs forth from the human mind
Distilled like dew upon the leaves
Or sometimes rain and thunder through
Even pain and torment has a place
for teaching you to both Scream!, and coo.
Speaking like a picture
Some make stick figures, with heads like balls
Some paint a rich grand picture
Cliffs, trees, and waterfalls
Some move like a slow turtle, all strung up in a girdle.
Some like a little swift, float gracefully and drift
Some run quick like the cheetah, and the earth command
Some clumsy like a pelican, on stump, or on dry land
Each one is both graceful, and clumsy in their own way
Each one has purpose and voice, their own unique style display.
And it all works together in diversity, My school anthem sung today:
n OH DIVERSITY, MY GRAND UNIVERSITY, MY ALMA MATTER, HOORAY! op
I am a unique individual, yet like you so much.
Not Norse, German, Asian, Indian or Islander, or Prussian
Not Spanish, Swiss, Italian, or French, Hungarian, or Russian
Not African, Egyptian, Middle Easterner, Eskimo or Dutch
I’ve tried to fit them all in, but these all can I with one page touch.
Yet each of these I appreciate, and their rich culture contemplate.
At the smorgasbord I fill my plate. I eat although, I’ve already ate
I’ve found that I am gray, mixed so fine in the pool
that Balance is my strength, my ever useful tool.
With it I craft the big things, But learn too, to leave it out.
When expression wells within me, I Cry, Laugh, Sing or Shout.
These rhymes from me, so simple yet complex you see
They spill out on their own, free from me to live and be
and have so much to impart to thee
I hope most of all, love of art and poetry

TOOLS
7-16-98
That thing which separates us
from the majority of all life
is the power to use tools
So men don’t listen to your wives,
when they think you fools
for drooling over tools
With each tool comes a set of rules
and learned art of graceful motion
Tool's power - creative expression lized real
Hence man's deep devotion
to understand and ply with skill,
brings a most fulfilling thrill
Tools are muscles mouthpiece
These for man they can express
the physical manifestation
of beauty to equal woman's caress
from our verbal inanition
we break, construct, condition
Sometimes we have to work without
the latest and the greatest
Working though with what we’ve got
Really can create us
We can get by without all the tools
If we learn and use the simple rules
At other times we realize our vision can’t be won
Without something greater there to help us, to get all we dream done
Just like my wise funny grandfather said, as he was growing old and slower
His eyes how dim, his voice it now so gentle and much lower
“You’re only as good as your tools, and live by what you know, knower.”
Why pound that board to split and break? The greatest of all your skill
cannot a good hole with chisel make - go and get a drill!
Of all tools within that box you’re prone to call a head
don’t get all distracted in gaining more instead
learn to use the ones you’ve got, with dexterity and finesse
then when basics mastered one by one you can add the rest

WITH THE GIBBON SWINGS DESIRE
7-16-98
With the Gibbon swings Desire
Said lesser of the Apes
But in his belly burns a fire
For fruit sweeter than the grapes
Ambition climbing higher
I swing from hand to hand
and with my graceful digits
I gravity command
With my special hand,
through treetops reaching skyward
Sometimes leaping headlong out,
I think I even fly bird.
Tiny bird up here with me
Your size it chirps and jeers at me
Like you, I too long to be
In the sky flying high and free
But my graceful hands I would not trade
for your wings shaped like a blade
Both so happy in the sky
That we seldom to wonder why
We both have such the need to fly
Small and brave, and daring
Sometimes foolish and not caring
Bones broken without a sling
From my lofty perch I sing
Others join me in the choir
Ambition climbing higher
this our quest for fire
for with the gibbon swings desire

THE SEAM OF CREATION
7-16-98
Creation is a sweeping gown
and being made was turned around
Inside out, it came about.
when finished in was turned back out.
Outward in the end begins that when finished will be again
Hard to find a stitching place running the length of creation
Where'd it start? So hard to trace from our twisted station
Where does it end? Can we portend? And knowing could we hope to mend?
compounding complication confounding explanation
Unraveling the masterwork seems an awful occupation
For in the end what came first, and how, is but mere speculation
What matters most is that it was done
Not how, unless you'd too make a Sun, and fashion Planets one by one
Likely as monkeys could concoct a pun.
Silly man - even if you knew - what use would it be to you?
We wear our clothes so many ways
as we travel through our days
Some outward in or inward out
or twisted, ripped, and torn about
And looking back with fond dismay
We ponder, muse, and laughing say
“Just what was I thinking? That was gay.
When upward grown and on our own
we tire of being rebellious
And turn our clothing back in again
Somewhat like they tried to tell us
Inside out, outside in
we bravely take it on the chin
and in our own uniqueness grin
Thinking it says how far we’ve been
We live for today, pervert and mutilate
and in doing so a whole show create
It’s funny, neat, and truly great
Diversity we satiate
Just like my first verse, my last will say
Some wear it backwards on their way
And too proudly do display their wares
their seams and stitching flay, no cares with showing under wears.
Inside out, Outside in, Outside Out , Inside In
All given to amuse and make us grin

TALL BLUE TREE
7-16-98
I am a tall blue tree
I have all I need as given from thee
With no greed, I give so free
Blue spruce is what I’ve grown to be.
The Sun, the Earth, the Air
These things are all there
And rain clouds overhead
Say for me You still care
As a gentle butterfly, on soft breeze does flutter by
Soft white gifts from my cousin, drift upon me by the dozen
Coating me in seeming snowy cotton.
It says to me I’m not forgotten
Green and small, I grow slow, tall and true
And in time show my true color - Blue
For after all my growing big and tall
I am a child too
Even though a simple tree
You have so much to learn of me
So long you have been burning me
And cutting me, and spurning me
I give my life each year you see
For the child so dear to me.
Because it is so clear, I see
That like a child I too must be
Living in simplicity, I have all I need as given from thee.

I AM A CHILD
7-16-98
He taught me with a simple game,
and to facilitate the same.
To be most kind, I must help them all win first.
To speak my words, and play as was my turn
And not with my intensity these gentle giants burn,
or cause to die of thirst.
Let them in their own way learn,
and not their bubbles burst.
They were all there, in their own heads
Better than me, in my tiny bed
And what a curiosity
I was to them in my simplicity
What the grandest irony
they could not my finer rules see.
You must lose to win I said
some laughed, some ignored, and some scratched their head
We give you cake and you want bread?
You pick the stool over throne instead?
I am a child, I am a man
And I all things can understand
The sweeping scope of all God’s plan
Because He’s there and holds my hand.
I went to him in humility, and meekness small
and asked you see, to help me give as asked of me
In being last I’ve surpassed you three
In weakness, and infertility.
You all have come to visit me
and teach with light what you are and be
It was God’s turn tonight, now I see
that He’s a better child than me

RUN RON RUN
7-17-98
Run Ron run
You can get it done!
‘Neath the scorching sun
The turtle made to run
Catch them, Catch them, Catch them if you can
You the prize to win
Peers giggle and grin
On your trip, your knees you skin
A rotating flip head to chin to head
lands you upon your can instead
you land there, laid out bare
The children circle round to stare
Children in a circle
Standing on the lawn
I feel like Dr. Jerkyl
As over me they fawn
I wheeze and gasp, soon to out pass, limp upon the grass
Laughs, tittles, giggles, taunting wondering eyes
Jeer the simple fool who couldn’t catch the prize
as laid out on the grass, in agony he lies
And loving teacher kind, not amused at all
redirects mean minds, marching them down the hall
But remember the simple story
of the turtles patient glory
with his slow insightful care,
the first to make it there
And in the end to humble
The quick and cocky hare
I am the turtle slow but wise, and in my own time I'll win the prize

RED TILLER
7/22/98
My little red tiller
He sputters and he tries
Cranky worn out Old feller
Coughing, choking, wheezing he dies
Forcing breath into his lungs with gentle surgeon’s hands
Doing all I can to keep him alive.
When he thinks he’s moved all the land he can
I pull, I tweak, revive
For I know him oh so well
that his symptoms I can tell,
and his tantrums too as well
My red little baby from hell
A work horse strong and true
when patiently spoken to
and cared for in his ways
I can prolong his days
I can clearly see
that like him too are we
When growing old we swim for the shallow
And in doing let our strengths grow fallow
We must re-learn and re-discover
through wise and gentle hands
Our value to up turn, uncover
Our gifts to sift again
Putting them to use, until the very end

ALIEN (Hold The Baby)
7/23/98
Coming to the hospital, this thing curious and odd
The doctors, staff, and nurses, all love to poke and prod
This bundle born of women, this package made of god
All want to hold the latent man, this tiny alien thing.
Passing it from hand to hand they feel a reckoning
A yearning deep within their being they don’t quite understand
Just what is it that makes us stare into deep eyes dark blue.
What mysterious magic lies in there, like vapid fools we coo.
You’re not like us - Oh no, not yet.
Little fish caught in neural net.
who once swam free in heaven’s pool
now cradled in blue blanket cool.
Little fish who we’ve just met
soon grips and shakes our hand
Soon you’ll be a little man
As you're molded in form we understand
Such a joy, new tiny toy, when a peaceful happy thing
So helpless yes, but too so strong
to make hard souls sing soft soothing songs
And to him servants quickly throng
body and face made to be beguiling
A king all things to him they bring
A mobile crown a teething ring
within his court the jester's sing
and all things based in coddling
We think of you a blankened slate
confused within a blanketed state
that we neglect your latent traits
thus we inculcate you to create
and fill the void with something great.
Like small acorn to mighty oak
the small babe born doth self provoke
to become all that it can mighty be
from tender sapling to mighty tree
And all that is required of thee
is water, sun and space to be.
sending roots deep into soil rich
by ever learning life's a bitch

NAKED MONKEY
7/23/98
The monkeys are all naked, but they don’t really care
They don’t put hats or bows in their hair
Or wear silly underwear
They love themselves just as they are
They don’t waist time washing clothes or cars
Living life as it appears, without need for mirrors or gears
They are true movie groovy stars
Loving themselves just as they are
Dance Monkey Dance
even though you have no pants
do the splits, take the deft chance
in your silly monkey dance
Hello Mr. No Shoes, we all love to look at you
Funny fingers, gripping toes,
Swinging climbing off you go,
gripping gadgets on all extensions
Like that wandering curly tail
You have such grand prehensions
moving gracefully and swell
The monkeys have a language
more simple and refined
Actions, sound, and movement
Are their simple signs
More than what you say - it’s what you do they’ll find
to judge you in the end, be you cruel or kind
We are naked monkeys
Our bodies full of fears
we cover them creative
as we grow on in years
We are naked monkeys
underneath our clothes
Merely proud pretentious primates
Our behavior this sure shows

Hello Mr. No Shoes, we all love to look at you
Funny fingers, gripping toes,
Swinging climbing off you go,
gripping gadgets on all extensions
Like that wandering curly tail
You have such grand prehensions
moving gracefully and swell
The monkeys have a language
more simple and refined
Actions, sound, and movement
Are their simple signs
More than what you say - it’s what you do they’ll find
to judge you in the end, be you cruel or kind
We are naked monkeys
Our bodies full of fears
we cover them creative
as we grow on in years
We are naked monkeys
underneath our clothes
Merely proud pretentious primates
Our behavior this sure shows
CHAMELEON
7/24/98
The strength of the chameleon is that he does well know
when to turn from green to brown
and which hue he should show.
Each color is a part of him
Creeping changing on a limb
Eyes independent, mine when blurring
Two tiny twisting telescopes
Their masterful conductor, lobes a whirring
Hitting all the drifting stirring notes
Silent notes unstruck, unplucked
Master of colors, motion
still...and stuck...unstirring.
A sight so delicate and refined
that man has captured and confined
To shape him, make him change, conform
Prized vanished specter against the norm
To rid him of his fanciful whims,
behind glass hidden on brown dry limbs
Much sooner to die in captivity
this kaleidoscope guy of longevity free
Listening to those who think they know
He gets a year full and more
Still and calm as their wild winds blow
Keeping it all up there in quiet store
He learns to hide his full glory
on bent limbs crouching still and down
With all senses listening to the pageantry
frozen he moves, blending green from brown
Quiet little guy
Why stay there still and shy?
You're a miracle hid in our plain sight
Your tongue can flick the sky's delight
Chameleon, vermilion, master of the blend
Your strength is not how fast you move,
but messages you don’t send.
You are the jungle’s silent friend
Clever and quick (in your own way), and strange
Chameleon , hidden, frozen, mute -
I Love You. Don’t You Ever Change.

BE FREE BEE
7/24/98
Fly, be free bee.
Landing in the pool!
What do you think you're doing,
trying to get cool?
Or did the pools reflection trick you now play the fool
Wiggling and kicking a whir of panic all bug eyed
Ignorant of inability to swim a pool so wide?
I will gently help you find that preposterous other side
If you promise to be kind, and that stinger thing to hide
With this said you nod your head
I scoop you with a pang of dread
now resting limp appearing dead
I place you on dry pavement
watching your certain doom
and to my amazement
You begin to clean and groom
Every tiny hair of leg and body part must be
rid of any moisture before you at last fly free
Now I begin to see the lesson you are teaching me
Mistakes are best from recovered
when fully they’re discovered
and the tedious time is taken
for all contaminants to be shaken
And we soon too fly fast and clean
once the soul's had time to preen
When dry to perfection
off ward free you fly
and I see in the pool’s reflection
you again command the sky

FREE TIME
7/30/98
Don’t want to get out of bed today
I’ll roll over and it will go away.
Time for something different, time for something new.
Ripe for something yellow, or better something blue
Time, this time to bow my servant
Time sublime, of you I’m miscreant
Hiding in peaceful, restful repose
Dreaming bare and free, remiss of care for clothes
Through the mist I lose its calling after me
while running naked careless toward the open sea
The waves a crashing a sound like ringing
psalms, the palms the sand, and sea each oddly singing listfully
And now a large wet lunging tongue, a wave of strength enormous
licks me from the golden beach, the size that can deform us
Within its wash machining mouth, I roll and reel till numb
still the ringing drones incessant in an underwater hum
And just about when air's ran out, the light to leave my head
It spits me like a sickly trout upon the beach instead.
Sudden stunned and shocking I’m full awake in bed
clocks clanger continues knocking its tiny ball of lead
Muted pillows me are mocking caught in smug and twisted sheets
all these things conspiring revel gleeful their deceit
Five fleeting minutes, or less than, I’ll be late for work
certain now predestined to arrive the office jerk.
I hop out madly, dress quite badly, slop myself half fed,
And leaving cast one last glance longing toward beguiling bed
If we knew and true conceived
vast possibilities outside our zones
all bosses would quick be bereaved
as awakened we could see to leave
the altar of their ringing phones.
Life is more than punching keys, or smoozing clients on your knees
Life for me's the gentle breeze blowing through tall green majestic trees,
or the grandeur of blue rushing seas. Dream I do so much of these.
Dead like everyone before me, dread like everyone to come
chained to a life that bores me while working drone and numb.
Much to be said for escaping. Imagination's wild joyful rides
For happy free and fantasy we seek wild soulful sides

100 Ways To Slice It
8-09-98
With a normal group a trip is sliced one way
They all agree on the place and also on the day
and each set aside the same time for a corresponding stay
None to fuss, and none to stray, none to get lost along the way
But with our group it’s cut as fine as an opus stretches long
Each one must sing alone or whine their matchless dulcet song
Some sing of utility, some croon to be unique
Some crow in futility, some pine soft and meek
Each one has their way they’d orchestrate this week
And so sings the mottled chorus this dissonant song oblique
All are of high intellect and such clever reason -
and hence they slice it a hundred ways
this warm vacation season
each one their individual wit to put upon display
and much they do show by it - how they come, and go, and stay
Some do not come until the middle or end
you see they feel it dumb, the entire week to spend
Some come at the first, then leave for home again
Can’t take the heat or thirst, the sun is not their friend
So these take it in small spurts
a full week, such boredom, how it hurts
Some tell you one thing, and then quickly change their minds
it’s like a mystery game, the real time and place to find
It never stays the same, just like hide and seek
No one really knows just where they’ll show up in the week
Some come and go just like they’ve planned and said
in this game of slicing, they are the plain white bread
but oh how refreshing - and how reliable
to sop up all the mess made at this tumultuous table
You’ll never really know
just what will happen.
So count it all a grand amusement show,
relax and take a nap and
in the end you’ll have great fun
enjoying the tales and quirks of everyone.
Variety is the spice of life I savor
and you all fill my rack so full of flavors
