06 Goldfish
Gb, 102bpm
V1
She joined our family in kid's the "FishBowl"
They watched her every day, and found her beautiful
Big personality, an easy grace
The kids were mesmerized by her charming face
CH
Just another fish swimming in the bowl
if you belly up you're replaceable
swim about dancing with your pretty face
but come the circumstance your easy to replace
Kids won't realize it isn't really you
Swap a midnight copy, so easy to do
Slip the new one out, on the hush, down low
No talk about, no splash, on with the show
V2
Her belly starts to swell becomes distended
An we the wise could tell her time would soon be ended
hide reality from tiny eyes
Whisking her away before they got wise
<CH>
BR
But kids easily can see through the guise
not so gullible, ever watchful eyes
Oh yes they'll cry, howl, and boorishly complain
whine and carry on, they want her back again
In time tears will dry, once they forget the pain
when little things die it's a parent's bane
But it's back to normal again, normal again, normal again,
Thank God almighty we are normal again!
But If you bother to inquire
you'll note they miss the beauty grace and charm
of that former fish, that former fish
V3
Named her Marina, feminine for "Of the Sea"
And even in the back amongst the scenery,
something special bout her from the other fish
She became their favorite spite the other's push
<CH>
I can't help myself thinking of that fish
Just what could be her dying wish?
Such a shame losing one so beautiful
But there's things in life beyond our control
Beyond our control
Beyond our control

Jacket Notes: This song is really about the girl named "Marina", who was a singer dancer in a four group, evenly-split, boy girl combo made for children's television. She at times played the keyboards, (or was shown to be doing so), which should tell you how prominently she was featured in the camera shots. But that just made her all the more curious to me, since I found her to be more attractive and charming than the lead dark brunette girl who was so often front and center of the attention. And so, the flash of a camera to the cute redhead was always a treat since the disparity between the two girls made the more overall attractive girl (Yes, I'm an American male who was a stay at home dad and watched TV with his kids!), even more attractive ...something to be said about perception an neural programming there... . Anyway, one day in the program she was suddenly replaced with a knock-off version of herself, tuned so well to the former girl that only the discriminating eye. like my own, would catch it. I was angry - "What the hell? Where'd Marina go? You can't fool me!, Bring her back! ... I loved that little redhead!". So I did me some Googling, and it turned out that she had gotten pregnant and the show had to let her go and replace her best they could.... I mean, they certainly couldn't have a 24 year old "teen" Idol showing up pregnant on a kids show. Nope, she had to go. I'm guessing the producers were guessing the general public wasn't ready for that since teenage pregnancy is such a big issue. Personally, I would have enjoyed sharing her pregnancy and birth with my fellow viewers, the kids. What a great thing to show kids where kids come from, no? Or how kids make things harder in your life... I think they could have managed it in a tasteful way, she was certainly old enough to be pregnant and had a current committed boyfriend off the show. Of course, I'm biased. Oh, how I loved that fish! How I hope that she's fulfilled and happy today ... And I've lost me a good fish or two over my lifetime with fish. ;)
